Cultural Event
The Ciompi Quartet has a distinguished past stretching back to its founding in 1965 by the renowned Italian violinist Giorgio Ciompi. The group currently travels widely to destinations throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia, while it continues to play a leading role in the cultural life of its home state of North Carolina. Performances by the Ciompi Quartet are known for their intelligence and musical sophistication, and for a unified sound that leaves room for the players' individual voices. With a rare maturity and insight born of its considerable experience on the concert stage, the Ciompi Quartet projects the heart and soul of the music in a repertoire that ranges from well know masterpieces to works by today's most communicative composers.
The Ciompi Quartet will be performing in Puerto Rico during the month of September 2005 and the Palmas del Mar community will be able to enjoy the fine music of this famous group on September 18, 2005. PHA is coordinating the details of this cultural event and more information will be passed on to you in the coming months!
Habitat Conservation
The Palmas del Mar Habitat Conservation Plan prohibits golf carts and motor vehicles in beach areas subject to nesting by sea turtles a protected species. Due to the ongoing demolition/construction at the old Palmas Inn parcel and problems with turtle's nesting in that area, U.S. Fish and Wildlife has prohibited vehicular traffic through the entire area behind the construction site. As a result, the area has been blocked off at both ends. Pedestrian beach access in this zone is permitted, but visitors must park golf carts in designated areas near the pumphouse on the east side of the parcel. The parcel developer has informed PHA that, as part of the future development, plans are to create golf cart path access between the old Palmas Inn and Palmanova Plaza to allow cart traffic through this area. This, however, will not occur in the immediate future.
