President´s Corner
January 2006
Year 2006 contains a very ambitious and difficult work agenda for your PHA Board but one I feel we can fulfill. This work agenda reflects to a large extent initiatives supporting the priorities of our community which are geared toward improving our quality of life, enhancing the values of our properties and providing you a safe and secure place to live. By now you should have received the budget information and should have caught a glimpse of the work ahead. These initiatives include restoring the Forest Preserve, recovering our beach through an Artificial Reef system, improving our roads and entrance facilities, enhancing security and access control systems and upgrading landscape areas among others. Also, we will be making a special effort to assess different infrastructure components and develop plans to sustain such critical community systems.
Regarding the state of infrastructure aspects of Palmas del Mar (electricity, water, roads, bridges, parking, storm water drainage systems, sewage, beach access, etc.), the PHA Board of Directors recently appointed a special Infrastructure Committee. The Committee is made up of key community leaders, mostly engineers and developers who are also Palmas homeowners, with expertise in the major areas of concern. Members of the Committee are Mr. Jose A. Casillas, Esq., Eng. Luis Muñiz, Eng. Gabriel Espasas, Eng. Luis Lomb, Eng. Julio Bagué, Eng. Carlos Garcia, Eng. Danny Torrellas, Eng. Albith Colon, PhD and Architect Raul Rivera. The Committee will evaluate infrastructure areas to determine capacity to serve present and future Palmas population. They will also identify shortfalls, establish lines of responsibility and ownership and develop action plans to address current problems and those which may arise from time to time. The Committee will be assisted by consultants and legal advisors as may be required to help the Committee meet its objectives. The Committee met for the first time in December 2005 and actions are already underway.
As the Palmas community continues to grow and the time nears when PHA must assume full stewardship for all aspects of our community affairs, it is imperative that we have a clear picture and a sound plan of action to deal with the infrastructure that supports our way of life. I thank the members of the Infrastructure Committee who are generously giving their time and effort to make our community a better place for all of us.
I will provide you a detailed report on the progress of these initiatives at the Annual Meeting on April 22,
